What Do You Do At Work When There’s Nothing To Do?

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Dr. Gary S. Goodman It seems like the perfect time to balance your checkbook, or to catch up on a little light reading, or to call your best bud and have a chat. But you dont dare do any of these happy things, because, no matter how you cut it, youre still at work! How can you justify making your personal vacation plans at Travelocity.com or at Orbitz.com, when youre being paid to do something else? Customarily, this isnt a concern, because theres enough work to keep you busy. But every business has its lulls And this puts you in a bind. If youre obviously goofing-off, you can be reprimanded and punished, and who wants that? But how can you even stay awake unless youre doing something more stimulating than waiting for the phone to ring or for the next, obviously lost and disoriented soul, to stumble into your retail establishment? Like a warrior without a war, whats a highly trained, ultra-disciplined trooper, like you, to do? What DO you do at work when theres nothing to do? Vegetating is not the answer, so here are some possibilities: (1) Communicate with the higher-ups and ask them flat-out, what can I do when theres nothing to do? If they give you a deer in the headlights look, continue to number (2), below. (2) Ask them, specifically, if you can catch up on some personal things, like scheduling your daughters next soccer practice, or calling the contractor to find out exactly when hes going to install those replacement windows. (3) Also, try to get a sense of the cultural boundaries in which youre silently operating. Ask, Would I get in trouble, or seem like a flake or a bad worker if I went ahead and did these personal things, during the doldrums, at 4:45 on Friday afternoon–the last working day before Christmas?” (4) You may be lucky enough to be in a hang-loose place, where everybody tries to beat the traffic on Fridays. If theyre all taking off at 2:30, never to be seen again, ask if you can, too. Even if you can take off, you have to use your political savvy and sixth sense to determine if youre going to lose points by not hanging in there until official quitting time. If they say one thing, verbally, like, go ahead and leave; but you get the feeling that theyre nonverbally saying another, like youd better not, then youd better stick around until someone, who has power says: Are you still here? Xbox Murder

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Jason A. Martin It happened on August 6, 2004. A gruesome murder. At approximately 1am, six individuals were stabbed and then beaten to their deaths. The murdered victims were Michelle Ann Nathan, 19; Erin Belanger, 22; Francisco Ayo-Roman, 30; Anthony Vega, 34; Roberto Gonzalez, 28 and Jonathan Gleason, 17. Most of the victims were asleep when the attack occurred. According to reports, the victims did not fight back. What in the world could have caused the heartless criminals to violently kill the aforementioned and two small dogs? The shocking answer is a Xbox game. The murderers were squatting at one of the victims grandparents vacant home. When the Xbox game and some clothing were removed from the home, where they were staying illegally, the boys became enraged. A clerk at Wal-Mart told investigators that the band of criminals was joking and laughing about killing people. The crew bought baseball batsthis was just two days before the heinous crime. What happened next was simply gruesome. That was almost two years ago. The trial, which had to be moved due to excessive media coverage, is about to get underway. The prosecution is adamant about seeking the death penalty if the defendants are convicted. To bolster their case, they managed to get one of the crew to flip. His name is Robert Cannon, 19, and hes going to spill the beans about the destructive events on that fateful August morning. In exchange, Cannon will serve a life sentence. The other three are Troy Victorino, 29; Michael Salas, 20 and Jerone Hunter, 20. The group is facing six counts of first-degree murder, five counts of mutilating a dead human body and many other felony offenses. Troy Victorino has been labeled as the ringleader. Just before the fatal attacks, he was arrested for beating his friend in the face with a walking stick. Victorino was released on a pitiful $2,500 bond. He was now free to coordinate and strike again. Due to the bloody evidence in the prosecutions possession, one can assume that the defendants stand a very good chance at receiving capital punishment if convicted. Since Robert Cannon flipped, the prosecution has a very good case. It will be an uphill battle for the defense. The trial is expected to last about two months. This trial was moved, due to the overwhelming media coverage, to St. Augustine. Jason A. Martin is a journalist for CriminalJusticeJournalist.com, which is a Criminal Justice website. How To Strategically Raise Your Warm List To Your Hot List In Five Steps With Strategic Thinking

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Glenn Ebersole How strategic are you in your marketing efforts? Are you using strategic thinking in the development of a strategic marketing plan for your business? Are you still frustrated by having too few hot list prospects? My experience indicates that there are too many businesses that are not being very strategic in their marketing and therefore are wasting energy, time, talent and resources. Recently I have read and have been hearing about warm lists for prospects. From my perspective, I would rather talk about hot lists for prospects. So lets not forget or dismiss the warm lists, but lets look at how to strategically raise the warm lists to hot lists. And the method to do that involves strategic thinking and planning with the use of your definition of your ideal client profile and a series of questions that may have been used to generate your warm list of prospects. Here is what your strategic thinking business coach is defining this method. Step 1: Develop your ideal client profile. This is a very popular and passionate topic with my business coaching clients and I have developed a list of the types of characteristics (which is certainly not meant to be all-inclusive) you may consider in defining the profile of your ideal client. Here is a list from your strategic thinking business coach to assist you in your efforts. 1. personal traits (quiet, friendly, spiritual, etc.) 2. geographic location 3. gender 4. age 5. level of education 6. income level 7. type of business 8. size of business 9. business owner 10. business executive 11. business manager 12. type of industry or business sector served 13. personal core values 14. business core values 15 level of openness to new ideas and change 16. personal interests outside of work 17. business ethics 18. volunteer activities 19. religious affiliation or spiritual persuasion 20. general outlook on life & business Step 2: Develop a list of questions to create your warm list. In order to assist you in creating a warm list here are some questions you may ask to come up with prospect names. + Who do my existing clients know? + Who are my personal friends? + Who do I know from schools I have attended? + Who are my business contacts (customers, former employers, etc.) + Who do I know from civic organizations? + Who do I know from church? + Who are my contacts in professional societies or trade organizations? + Who do I write checks to (who do I do business with)? + Who are my current & past neighbors? + Who do I know from sports, hobbies or other outside interests? + Who do I know from my family & extended family? + What names could I list if I brainstormed names by going through the alphabet from A to Z? Step 3: Develop your warm list by filling in prospects under each question. Step 4: Review each prospect in the warm list by evaluating how close they come to your ideal client profile. Step 5: Develop a hot list of those prospects selected from Step 4. In other words, list the prospects from the warm list that match your ideal client profileto create the hot list. Your strategic thinking business coach encourages you to use strategic thinking in your marketing efforts, especially in the creation of your hot list of prospects. Intuitive Eating: An ‘Anti-Diet’ That Works

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Rita Jenkins Stop hating your body, stop counting calories and stop using food for purposes other than to satisfy hunger, and you’ll be healthier and slimmer. That, in a nutshell, is the argument in favor of “intuitive eating,” or letting your body tell you when, what and how much to eat. “The basic premise of intuitive eating is, rather than manipulate what we eat in terms of prescribed diets — how many calories a food has, how many grams of fat, specific food combinations or anything like that — we should take internal cues, try to recognize what our body wants and then regulate how much we eat based on hunger and satiety,” says professor of health science Steven Hawks, lead researcher of an intuitive-eating study at Brigham Young University. The findings are reported in the American Journal of Health Education. Hawks, who adopted an intuitive-eating lifestyle himself several years ago and lost 50 pounds as a result, says that “normal” dieting in the United States doesn’t result in long-term weight loss and contributes to food anxiety and unhealthy eating practices, and can even lead to eating disorders. All Diets Work Against Human Biology Hawks and colleagues Hala Madanat, Jaylyn Hawks and Ashley Harris identified a handful of college students who were naturally intuitive eaters and compared them with other students who were not. Participants then were tested to evaluate their health. As measured by the Intuitive Eating Scale, developed by Hawks and others to measure the degree to which a person is an intuitive eater, the researchers found that intuitive eating correlated significantly with lower body mass index (BMI), lower triglyceride levels, higher levels of high density lipoproteins and decreased risk of cardiovascular disease. Approximately one-third of the variance in body mass index was accounted for by intuitive eating scores, while 17 to 19 percent of the variance in blood lipid profiles and cardiovascular risk was accounted for by intuitive eating. “The findings provide support for intuitive eating as a positive approach to healthy weight management,” says Hawks, who plans to do a large-scale study of intuitive eating across several cultures. “In less developed countries in Asia, people are primarily intuitive eaters,” notes Hawks. “They haven’t been conditioned to artificially structure their relationship with food like we have in the United States. Theyve been conditioned to believe that the purpose of food is to enjoy, to nurture. You eat when you’re hungry, you stop when you’re not hungry any more. They have a much healthier relationship with food, far fewer eating disorders, and interestingly, far less obesity,” he points out. “What makes intuitive eating different from a diet, is that all diets work against human biology, whereas intuitive eating teaches people to work with their own biology, to work with their bodies, to understand their bodies,” Hawks explains. “Rather than a prescriptive diet, it’s really about increasing awareness and understanding of your body. It’s a nurturing approach to nutrition, health and fitness as opposed to a regulated, coercive, restrictive approach. That’s why diets fail, and that’s why intuitive eating has a better chance of being successful in the long term,” he maintains. Two Attitudes, Two Behaviors To become an intuitive eater, a person has to adopt two attitudes and two behaviors. The first attitude is body acceptance. “Its an extremely difficult attitude adjustment for many people to make, but they have to come to a conscious decision that personal worth is not a function of body size,” says Hawks. “Rather than having an adversarial relationship with my body, where I have to control it, and force it to submit to my will so that I can make it thin, I’m going to value my body because it allows me to accomplish some higher good with my life.” The second attitude is that dieting is harmful. “Dieting does not lead to the results that people think it will lead to, and so I try to help people foster an anti-dieting attitude,” says Hawks. “You have to say to yourself, ‘I will not base my food intake on diet plans, food-based rules, good and bad foods, all of that kind of thing.’ For people who are deep into dietary restraint and dietary rules, again, that’s a very difficult attitude adjustment to make, to give up all those rules.” The first behavior is learning how to not eat for emotional, environmental or social reasons. “Socially we eat all the time in our culture. We go out to eat ice cream if we break up with our boyfriend, we eat to celebrate, we eat when we’re lonely, we eat when we’re sad, we eat when we’re stressed out,” says Hawks. “Being able to recognize all the emotional, environmental and cultural relationships we have with food and finding better ways to manage our emotions is part of the process.” The second behavior is learning how to interpret body signals, cravings and hunger, and how to respond in a healthy, positive, nurturing way. Learning the body’s signals can be difficult at first, but Hawks suggests thinking about hunger and satiety on a 10-point scale, where “10″ is eating until one is sick and “1″ is starving. Intuitive eaters keep themselves at or around a “5.” If they feel they are getting hungry, they eat until they are back at a “5″ or “6.” They stop eating when they’re satisfied, even if that means leaving food on the plate. No Food Is Taboo One part of intuitive eating that may be counterintuitive to people conditioned to restrictive dieting is the concept that with intuitive eating there is a place for every food. In other words, there is no food that’s ever taboo. There’s no food you can’t ever have. “Part of adopting an anti-dieting attitude is the recognition that you have unconditional permission to eat any kind of food that you want,” says Hawks. “And that’s scary for people who say, ‘If I abandon my diet rules, then I’ll fill a pillowcase full of M&M’s, dive into it and never come up again. That’s what I crave, I know that’s what I crave, that’s all I will always crave.’ But thats not the reality. The reality is that our bodies crave good nutrition.” It is dieting that creates psychological and physiological urges to binge on taboo foods. While people may experience some binges when they first start eating intuitively, they eventually will learn to trust themselves and that behavior will disappear, Hawks maintains. One technique he suggests is having an abundance of previously taboo foods on hand. Once the foods are no longer forbidden, a person quickly loses interest in them. “If people are committed to recognizing what their bodies really want, the vast majority of people will say that they very quickly overcame cravings,” Hawks says, opening an office desk drawer filled with untouched junk food. “It certainly has worked for me.” Copyright 2005 Daily News Central Rita Jenkins is a health journalist for Daily News Central, an online publication that delivers breaking news and reliable health information to consumers, healthcare providers and industry professionals: http://www.dailynewscentral.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rita_Jenkins http://EzineArticles.com/?Intuitive-Eating:-An-Anti-Diet-That-Works&id=101045 cheap phentermine no prescription free shipping buy phentermine cod no prescription buy phentermine 180 phentermine online without perscription

Know Who You Are

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Stephanie Manley While you are dating someone we often lose a sense of our self that we may have initially had. It is highly important that we maintain who and what we are while we date that person. So often our own ideals, morals, and wants can change when we are dating someone. We need to maintain our ideals, morals, and wants throughout the relationship, as doing that will keep us on track with the type of relationship that we want. When you first date someone in the new bliss of a relationship we often compromise ourselves perhaps in the desire to finally have that one right relationship. While its ok to make some compromises, other will only serve to haunt us later in the relationship, and later down the road. One example may be drug use, if you are dating someone that may use drugs casually, say only on the weekend, or at a party, and if this was something that you were against, this may not work out for you later. At some time and point, you will have to address this disconnect, whether it means you changing your beliefs or you getting rid of that partner. Another example might be the way someone treats you. Knowing where your personal boundaries are can help keep you on track. Lets say you are against any type of verbal abuse such as a partner yelling at you. You notice that sometimes in heated discussions, that all couples have your partner yells at you, or may call you names. You know these are things you are against and do not want any part of. You will once again be forced to choose if this behavior is ok, or if you are going to have to part ways with your partner. Your spiritual life may be an important area for you. If you engage in a dating relationship with someone that does not value a spiritual life, this will come up eventually. As your partner may not understand when you go to religious services or when you may need to spend time practicing your faith. Again, this disconnect will eventually rise to the service. It is vitally important that you know enough about yourself, your beliefs, and your wants and desires in a relationship. All disconnects will become apparent, and you will have to make adjustments accordingly. It is important that you know what is important to you, and you make these areas known early on to establish your boundaries. This way you and your partner are both clear on what the areas of compromise are. Florida Palm Trees

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Kevin Stith Nicknamed the “Sunshine State,” Florida enjoys favorable weather conditions almost all through the year. Summers tend to be warm and rather humid, whereas winter temperatures are mild with irregular bouts of cold winds. Coastal regions in Florida record comparatively warmer temperature in wintry weather and are cooler in summer. Latitudes, inland lakes and nearness to the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico are important features that affect Florida temperatures. The state experiences two distinct spells of wet periods that offer adequate rainfall. Florida’s favorable climatic conditions are essential for growth and preservation of its diverse flora and fauna. Weather conditions in the state are ideal for various palm types. Of the various Florida palm types, numerous species are not indigenous and have adapted to the states climatic conditions. Florida is renowned for its palm vegetation and landscapes. Its tropical climate is ideal for growth of various types of palm. This includes he coconut palm, Canary Island date palm, Florida royal palm and red Latin palm. A large area in central and southern Florida is favorable for palm growers. Palm cultivation plays a significant part in the regions economy. As with all other plant types, palm trees in Florida are susceptible to various diseases and can experience deterioration because of various insect groups. The dreaded palm beetle can launch a lethal attack if plants are treated in time. Lethal yellowing, defoliating problems, fungal bud rot, nutrient deficits and lightning damage can cause immense damage to these plant groups. In order to safeguard and protect varieties of Florida palm trees, the Division of Plant Industry and other concerned universities and institutions conduct continuous research to find solutions to existing problems. These certified groups also monitor growth, retardation, new species and other aspects of palm vegetation. Palm culturists and government panels regularly discuss fertilization, nutrition, fungi, bacteria and insect invasions to enhance growth, economy and environment consciousness. Palm Trees provides detailed information on Palm Trees, Artificial Palm Trees, Silk Palm Trees, Types Of Palm Trees and more. Palm Trees is affiliated with Christmas Trees. Baby Boy Gift Baskets Are Fun To Make

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Rebecka Whitlock When looking for a gift idea, think of making your own baby boy gift basket. Here are some tips for getting started: Choose a container. This can be a basket or a diaper bag or some other useful object. Put in filler, such as baby blankets and diapers to fill it up mostly. Baby boy gift baskets can be filled with all sorts of items for care and cleaning, such as powder, shampoo, lotions, nail clippers and that sort of thing. Add a cute bib, some socks and maybe a toy. Baby boy gift baskets come in all sizes and shapes. You can make one unique to the child or the parent or come up with your own design. Food can be the main items in the baby boy gift basket. It could be filled with blue gum cigars, tasty cookies, blue lollipops and some kind of chocolate that the mom would like. Add a bib and a baby spoon and cup and this gift basket would be the talk of the nursery. The idea of a baby boy gift basket could even be taken to another level where you might start a business. This gift idea could be offered in hospitals and especially in the gift shop. One might advertise the baskets in different baby shops or online to get started. Great Way To Start A Business Or Fund An Existing Business

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=V_Davis]V Davis There are lenders in the market now that will loan up to $500,000 for an existing business and for new business starts. These loans are totally unsecured and the borrower can make interest only payments until the business starts making enough profits to make larger principal payments. These loans are great for a business that needs a jump start and even better for a business that is just starting up or for someone who has a business plan. Anyone with a good FICA credit score usually gets the money they need to start or fund their existing business. These loans are usually funded very fast and have limited documentation. These loans only require stated income - not proof of income like most business loans. There are several lenders out there that are presenting these loans. These loans are signature loans and there is no collateral required. This is a great way to start the business you’ve always dreamed about or get the money you need for an existing business. I have checked into these loans and they are presented by some of the largest lenders in the country. At this point the loans are only for US residents. I have worked in the finace indusry for the last 15 years. I have experience in the auto loans industry and the mortgage lending industry. http://www.banklinkusa.us Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=V_Davis http://EzineArticles.com/?Great-Way-To-Start-A-Business-Or-Fund-An-Existing-Business&id=318443 online purchase tramadol prescription tramadol discriptions ultram pharmacy online buy ultram online without a prescription

The Value of Communicating Well

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Dr. Jackie Black I received an email this week about communication in relationships. He wrote: Why is communication important in a relationship? Is it the most important part of a relationship? First lets agree that when we use the word communication we are referring to verbal and non-verbal communication. Verbal and non-verbal language is an essential element for committed relationships, friendships, business relationship and virtually all other kinds of relationships. We depend on making ourselves understood to convey our wants and needs, likes and dislikes, thoughts and feelings, and to make requests of others. We communicate non-verbally with our faces and our bodies. For example, when we are listening, we might tilt our heads a bit or lean forward toward the speaker. The speaker would likely perceive us to be interested, and listening attentively. Conversely, if we fidget, sigh, roll our eyes, make any of a number of faces with our mouths and lips (you know what I mean!), we could be accurately perceived by the speaker to be in disagreement, contemptuous, critical, disapproving, etc. We communicate verbally with the words we choose, with inflection, pitch, decibel level, and cadence. And make no mistake, a speakers attitude comes across loud and clear when s/he speaks. Here are a few key things to remember: Say what you mean and mean what you say. Do what you say and say what you do. Your thoughts and feelings, needs and wants, likes and dislikes are valid and legitimate. It is your job to own your internal experience. That means identify what is going on for you inside yourself, learn to language it and find the courage to express it. Ownership implies that you know and believe that you are Okay with who you are, and how you experience and react to your inside and outside worlds. Other people do not have to understand or agree in order for your experiences to be valid, legitimate and respected. This is about you! Similarly, others express their thoughts and feelings, needs and want, likes and dislikes and their internal experiences are valid and legitimate. You may or may not understand. Please respect their experience(s). Your response? Agree to disagree. Accept without agreeing. This is about them! This is not about you. When a need is unmet it becomes an issue. We have many opportunities to experience and express issues in our relationships. Common ways to respond, although unproductive and harmful, are to complain, blame and criticize. Next time you experience an issue try making a request. Identify what you need or want or what you want someone to do or say differently, then, make a request. Focus on what you want to happen, instead of what isnt happening or what happened that you didnt like. Learn to tell your whole truth. Notice I didnt say the truth. Your truth is your recognition of what you are experiencing inside yourself and outside of yourself at any given moment. If you are experiencing an upset or a disappointment you may know or understand less about what you are experiencing than at other times. Find the courage to say as much as you can about what you think, feel, need and want. When you have more clarity or additional knowing be sure to share them with you partner. Listening is an essential and valuable skill. Becoming a good listener takes time and practice, and is enormously appreciated by others. When you are engaged in a meaningful conversation, say to you partner, Tell me more. This is a special invitation that conveys your interest, and intention to listen and really know them and understand the issue. Communication is one of the essential parts of creating rich, meaningful relationships. Communicating verbally and non-verbally in a kind, responsible and respectful way furthers understanding, feeling valued, respected and cared for and increases intimacy and trust. Remember, only you can make it happen! Celebrex Side Effects Lawsuit Lawyer

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anna_Henningsgaard] Anna Henningsgaard The Food and Drug administration urges people to stop taking Celebrex, but even so the drug has remained on the market. Recent studies have found that Celebrex causes heart attacks and strokes at higher doses. These same problems have lead rival pharmaceutical company Merck & Co to remove its painkiller Vioxx from the market. However, Pfizer, the maker of Celebrex, is leaving its dangerous drug on the market. Celebrex is an anti-inflammatory drug that does not contain steroids. This particular variety of anti-inflammatory is known as a COX-2 inhibitor and is used primarily to relieve the painful symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It has sometimes been prescribed for other uses. Some patients on Celebrex have suffered severe stomach bleeding, especially those who consume alcohol while on the medication. Other medication, including over-the-counter aspirins and ibuprofens, must be carefully monitored and cleared by a doctor if combined with Celebrex. Celebrex should not be taken while a woman is nursing. Many people are vulnerable to violent allergic reactions to Celebrex, and these problems should be taken to a doctor immediately. The number of adverse reactions to Celebrex is growing every day as complications arise from this dangerous medication. If you or someone you love has been taking Celebrex unaware of these serious health risks, or if they have suffered serious complications resulting in injury or death, contact a lawyer about joining in the lawsuit against Pfizer, reclaiming damages, and forcing this harmful drug off the market.
